(#2020-01) YEONAM BOOKS PUBLISHED ITS FLAGSHIP BOOK,
KOREA ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENT
Yeonam Books published its flagship book, Korea Alternative Investment, on June 30, 2020, which is the very first attempt to introduce the Korean alternative investment market to the world. The book is written in English for global investors who want to learn about Korea’s alternative investments. Thus far, no other book on the alternative investment market in Korea has been published in the local language or Korean. Korea Alternative Investment covers everything from real estate, infrastructure, ships, aircraft, private equity, and hedge funds to even the venture capital of Korea. It includes six individual alternative investment markets from A to Z: market overview, regulation, system, valuation, benchmark, historical performance, and real case studies. The hardcover book is about 500 pages long and is targeted for global institutional investors, private investment companies, and academic and public institutions with interests in the alternative investment markets of emerging markets as well as the Republic of Korea.
Kwangmoon So, the author of Korea Alternative Investment, is an alternative investment specialist currently working at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea. Mr. So has been with the Ministry since 2014 and has worked in various divisions, where he has been in charge of asset management for all of Korea’s national funds and supervised Korea’s funds entrusted to the World Bank Group. From 2006 to 2014, he worked at an accounting firm (KPMG), investment bank (UBS Securities), and alternative investment company (Kyowon Invest). He holds a Master's degree in Public Management from the KDI School of Public Policy and Management and a Bachelor's degree in Business from Korea University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
The book has already received high remarks from institutional investors, including the national pension fund of Korea, the world’s third largest asset manager, a global private equity fund, Affirma Capital (former Standard Chartered Private Equity), and local value investment company VIP Asset Management. Mr. Dongwoo Bock, the head of alternative investment division of VIP Asset Management, welcomed the publication of the book, remarking, “This book is worth buying, keeping, and re-reading from time to time. Even though I consider myself an experienced veteran alternative investor, I acquired new information from some chapters, which helped clarify my understanding of valuation, benchmark, and regulation.” Mr. Minhyeon Shim, the managing director of Affirma Capital, commented on the book, “Finally a book focusing on the Korea’s alternative investment market has been published. It has been a long wait for an all-in-one reference book about the alternative investment world in Korea to be available. I recommend it to global investors interested in Korea and the alternative investment market.” Mr. Min-ho Kim, the senior portfolio manager at the national pension fund recommended the book to global institutional investors who are interested in the Korean market, including the pension funds.
Yeonam Books is an international publishing company established in 2018 by Kate Kyungsuk Na, also the current CEO, in South Korea. Prior to founding the company, Na first worked as a middle and high school teacher before running her own real estate agency for more than 20 years. She states that her company will maintain its focus on book publishing with competitive edges across various sectors in Korea and the rest of world in order to pursue a more creative society by publishing internationally, which is also a vision of the company.
